As one of the largest locations for education of prospective teachers, the University of Duisburg-Essen constantly aims to maintain the quality of research and teaching in this field of science. In the future-oriented expansion of our specific educational profile, we will be supported by the programme "Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung" (rough translation: "Increasing Quality of Education for Teachers"), a joint-venture between the country of Germany and the states being financed by the Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung)
As a part of this project, we will set up a virtual learning environment (for instance, Moodle or ILIAS) which is precisely adjusted towards the requirements in education of prospective teachers. Along we will scientifically monitor the learning process of the students in order to gain new evidence about requirements towards virtual learning environments and towards E-learning in general as well as to get the ability to better adjust the learning environment towards the requirements of the students.
The implementation of an inline annotation function for any kind of content (e.g. text, images or videos) forms an important part of this project. These annotations shall serve as individual reminders for the users as well as allow collaborative editing, thus empowering collaborative work of the students.
